Dr Merrett is a fully qualified and experienced Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist who specialises in advanced gastrointestinal endoscopic techniques.

After studying medicine and graduating with honours from Monash University, Dr Merrett went on to 4 years of post-graduate training in Internal Medicine, followed by 3 years of specialist training in Gastroenterology at Prince Harry's and St. Vincent's hospitals in Melbourne. He then took on a two-year appointment at Oxford University as a Senior Research Fellow in the specialist field of gastroenterology. His time there included important research in advanced endoscopic techniques and inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr Merrett has been in private practice as a Gastroenterologist for over 20 years and is recognised as a leading authority in the field, with his research appearing in Australian and International scientific publications and medical journals.

Dr Merrett's specialist areas of interest include:

  • Colonoscopy and bowel cancer screening
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Chron's disease, ulcerative colitis and coeliac disease)

Dr Marks is a Consultant Physician, specialising in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism. As a fully qualified medical specialist, a referral from a G.P. or another specialist is required for all patients.

Dr Marks is a highly regarded authority in her field and is the Head of the Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism Unit at Monash Medical Centre, as well as being Co-ordinator of the Multi-Disciplinary Bariatric Assessment Clinic. She also runs the Body Composition Laboratory at the hospital, which conducts research and assessment of nutrition related disorders.

With over 20 years’ experience in private practice as a Consultant Physician, Dr Marks provides unrivalled expertise on nutrition and is able to use prescription medication, along with advice and assessment, to treat patients in all aspects of under-nutrition and over-nutrition. She is also actively involved in important, ongoing research into the area of obesity.

Frankston Private Diagnostic Unit (FPDU) offers a wide range of investigations of gastrointestinal motility as well as capsule endoscopy and carbohydrate breath testing.

Judy Hooper is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with more than 10 years experience in this field. Judy also overseas the inflammatory bowel disease program coordinating the administration of biologic agents Infliximab and Humira.

Investigations available at FPDU include Carbohydrate breath testing,Oesophageal Studies, Capsule Endoscopy, Anorectal Physiology Studies and Colonic Transit Study.
